LILLEHAMMER, Norway—Matt Greiner added to his collection of World Championship podiums at the Junior World Championship by taking the silver medal at the site of the 1994 Olympic Winter Games. Greiner, Emma Erickson, and the doubles team of Marcus Mueller/Ansel Haugsjaa closed out the championships with a silver in the team relay.

Men’s Singles

It is not common to have a Junior World Championship race so close, but this race proved to be the exception. Germany’s Marco Leger put two runs down for a combined time of one minute, 40.940 seconds. Greiner (Park City, Utah) clocked in at 1:40.968, just .028 behind the German athlete. Latvia’s Kaspars Rinks was third in 1:41.100.

Greiner took a bronze medal at the 2022 edition of the Junior World Championships. With mid-field start times, Greiner used his driving skills and superb aerodynamic position to gain time down the 4,478 feet of refrigerated concrete. He was ranked third in the overall Junior World Cup this season, despite missing a race while competing with the National Team.

World Cup runner-up Aidan Mueller (West Islip, N.Y.) was eighth with a time of 1:42.035. Logan Barnes (Milwaukee, Wisc.) was 16th in 1:43.962, while Seth Coates (Potsdam, N.Y.) was 19th in 1:44.132.

Team Relay

Much like the men’s singles event, Germany edged out the United States by a tight margin for the relay. The team of Greiner, Erickson (Park City, Utah) and Mueller (Brookfield, Wisc.)/Haugsjaa (Framingham, Mass.) combined for a total time of 3:36.918. The gold medalists were .136 in front of the U.S. squad, with a time of 2:36.782. They were represented by Leger, Antonia Pietschmann, and the team of Pascal Kunze/Max Trippner. The Austrian team of Barbara Allmaier, Noah Kallan and Johannes Scharnagl/Moritz Schiegl finished third in 2:36.959, .041 off the silver.

The Norton Junior National Championships will take place in Lake Placid, N.Y. on March 2, followed by the Norton Youth National Championships on April 6.
